Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has declared Wednesday, 20 August 2025, a work-free day for all public servants in celebration of the annual Isese Day.
The announcement was contained in a circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, on Monday, 18 August 2025, and addressed to all ministries, agencies, parastatals, and local councils.
“It is hereby notified for general information that this year’s Isese Day Celebration will hold on Wednesday, 20 August 2025,” the circular stated.
The Lagos State Government explained that the holiday reaffirms its commitment to promoting indigenous Yoruba culture, traditions, spirituality, and heritage while strengthening support for traditional institutions.
Government offices will reopen the next day. “Work will resume on Thursday, 21 August 2025, at 8:00 a.m. All Accounting Officers are advised to note the contents of this Circular and ensure it receives Service-wide publicity,” Agoro added.
Isese Day, now officially recognised by the state, is dedicated to celebrating Yoruba spirituality and cultural preservation. It has in recent years gained increasing recognition across Southwestern Nigeria as part of efforts to uphold indigenous heritage.
