CNN is expanding its live news hours, bringing on Elex Michaelson to anchor a new program from Los Angeles from 12-2 a.m. ET.
Michaelson joins CNN from KTTV, Fox’s L.A. station, where he garnered widespread acclaim for his coverage of this year’s devastating wildfires. He had been with KTTV since 2017.
While at KTTV, Michaelson also created and hosted political talk show The Issue Is with Elex Michaelson, interviewing guests that included President Donald Trump, former President Joe Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“I am so excited to join CNN and learn firsthand from some of the most talented journalists on the planet,” said Michaelson in a statement. “I’m especially grateful that CNN is expanding its investment in my hometown as the West Coast houses so many global leaders in politics, entertainment, technology, sports and more. This is truly a dream job.”
The new program will expand CNN’s live news programming into late night in the east coast, while providing a new live primetime show on the west coast. The channel has typically played reruns of its primetime programming in the hours. The show will also air live on CNN International.
