Warner Bros.’ “One Battle After Another” held well in its third frame, taking $1.6 million for a running total of $11.2 million. Studiocanal’s Tourette’s syndrome drams “I Swear” debuted in third place with $1.6 million.
Universal’s “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” continued its robust run, adding $617,000 for $22.8 million to date. Entertainment Film Distributors’ “The Smashing Machine,” starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, placed fifth with $477,000 in its sophomore outing.
Warner Bros.’ “The Conjuring: Last Rites” scared up another $412,000 in its sixth week, bringing its total to $24.1 million. At No. 7, Kazoo Films’ animation “Night of the Zoopocalypse” opened with $356,000, ahead of Vertigo Releasing’s “Good Boy,” which launched with $311,000.
Universal’s long-running “The Bad Guys 2” took $226,000 for $18.9 million overall, while Lionsgate U.K.’s “The Long Walk” rounded out the top 10 with $197,000, lifting its total to $6 million.
Sony is opening Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt,” starring Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield, while Lionsgate is releasing “Good Fortune,” headlined by Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen and Aziz Ansari.
Disney looks to maintain its box office momentum with horror sequel “Black Phone 2,” the follow-up to Scott Derrickson’s 2022 hit, arriving in cinemas on Friday. The supernatural thriller will be joined by Universal’s family offering “Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie,” expanding the popular preschool brand to the big screen.
One of the week’s major launches is Paramount’s “Roofman,” Derek Cianfrance’s dark comedy starring Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, and Peter Dinklage. The film opens across more than 300 locations.
Netflix has a busy slate with two high-profile originals: Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” featuring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth, and Edward Berger’s “Ballad of a Small Player,” starring Colin Farrell, Fala Chen, and Tilda Swinton. Both will have limited theatrical play ahead of their streaming debuts.
Studiocanal revisits the Keanu Reeves cult favorite “Constantine,” marking its 20th anniversary with a 4K restoration, Curzon opens a 4K restoration of Milos Forman’s all-time classic “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest,” while Elysian Film Group Distribution continues its Studio Ghibli program with a return engagement of Miyazaki Hayao’s “Princess Mononoke.”
Other new titles include Boris Lojkine’s Cannes-winning migrant drama “Souleymane’s Story” and Metro/Miracle Films’ unconventional love story “Sunlight.” Opera and classical fans will be served by “La Sonnambula – Met Opera 2025,” screening for one day only.
Punjabi audiences can look forward to Zee Studios International’s “Godday Godday Chaa 2,” rounding off a varied and competitive mid-October lineup.
