It will be Ben Platt times 10 this December at the Ahmanson Theatre.
The decorated performer — Platt is a Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winning artist — will take the stage in Los Angeles for a two-week residency at the Center Theatre Group venue in Los Angeles. Ben Platt: Live at the Ahmanson will take place Dec. 12-21, and find him sharing the stage with “a star-studded set of special guests” to perform some of his greatest hits and “timeless Broadway favorites,” per CTG.
No word yet on who those cameos will come from, but Platt turned out a similar residency at the Palace Theatre on Broadway last year that featured the likes of Cynthia Erivo, Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Hudson, Kacey Musgraves, Sam Smith, Micaela Diamond, Shoshana Bean and others. But what CTG teased is that he’ll have surprises every night during the run.
Originally directed by two-time Tony Award winner Michael Arden (Parade), Ben Platt: Live at the Ahmanson marks a homecoming for L.A.-raised performer who launched his theatrical career here with such shows as Dead End and Caroline, or Change. Diana Ross, Bernadette Peters and Lea Solonga have also done extended concert sets at the Ahmanson.
“After blowing audiences away last year at The Palace on Broadway, we are thrilled to welcome Ben back to our own legendary venue, the Ahmanson Theatre,” said Snehal Desai, CTG’s Brindell & Milton Gottlieb artistic director. “When you think of the very best in musical theatre, it simply doesn’t get any better than Ben Platt, whose stage presence and charisma make him one of the seminal performers of his generation. Plus, you never know who is going to join him on stage each night! It promises to be the holiday event of the season.”
