Sex and slaughter are on full display in the new, NSFW red band trailer for “Spartacus: The House of Ashur.” The new chapter in Starz‘s “Spartacus” franchise promises a story filled with gladiator gore, Roman romance and steamy scandals as the once defeated Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay) returns to Rome to lead his own house with vengeful conviction.
The trailer spares few visuals, showcasing the heroes and villains slicing and soliciting their ways through ancient Rome. Waterfalls of blood and guts are juxtaposed with drinks and jewels, as the new season suggests excess in all matters of the flesh, topped with dialogue of thinly veiled innuendos. This isn’t your dad’s “Spartacus.”
“The House of Ashur” will also see the franchise arrival of Julius Caesar (Jackson Gallagher) and his wife, Cornelia (Jaime Slater). The ancient power couple will bring heightened elegance, as well as lust, as they face off against Ashur.
Alongside Ashur, Caesar, and Cornelia, the new season will introduce Ashur’s fierce gladiator trainer Korris (Graham McTavish), subversive gladiatrix Achillia (Tenika Davis) and ambitious hunk Tarchon (Jordi Webber). The trailer also shows cast members Jamaica Vaughan, Ivana Baquero, Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith and Leigh Gill, each playing a role in the sultry and scurrilous setting.
“Spartacus: The House of Asher” will premiere its first two episodes on Dec. 5 on Starz, with new episodes streaming every subsequent Friday on the Starz app and all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms. “Spartacus” creator Steven S. DeKnight serves as showrunner of “The House of Asher.” He also serves as executive producer alongside Rick Jacobson and Aaron Helbing.
