A new research paper from OpenAI asks why large language models like GPT-5 and chatbots like ChatGPT still hallucinate, and whether anything can be done to reduce those hallucinations. In a blog post summarizing the paper, OpenAI defines hallucinations as “plausible but false statements generated by language models,” and it acknowledges that despite improvements, hallucinations “remain a fundamental challenge for all large language models” — one that will never be completely eliminated. To illustrate the point, researchers say that when they asked “a widely used chatbot” about the title of Adam Tauman Kalai’s Ph.D. dissertation, they got three different answers,…

While Kenneth Branagh had seen commercial success already with his Poirot revival two years prior,…

Ontario, a major production hub for studios and streamers, has set its sights on new climate control technologies to electrify, decarbonize and reduce waste on local film sets. And accelerating that industrywide push for real change to reduce Hollywood’s local carbon footprint as it shoots across the province is the job of Ontario Film Commissioner Justin Cutler. As part of Ontario Creates, he and his team market the province to American and other foreign producers as part of a growing global locations business. That’s no easy feat, since coming to grips with environmental destruction is overwhelming and anxiety-inducing for most…
